Guy Ritchie's RocknRolla premiere: Leon Jackson looks uncomfortable
Leon Jackson's album Right Now made it to No 3 in the charts

Leon Jackson dropped by record label

The X Factor winner vows to carry on writing music

Thursday, 19 March 2009

Leon Jackson will not have his contract with record label Sony renewed.

The singer won The X Factor in 2007 and released his debut album Right Now last year.

But the LP only notched up sales of 130,000 while runner-up Rhydian Robert’s self-titled first album sold 500,000 copies.

But Leon, 20, insists he'll carry on penning songs.

‘I had a great year and learned so much recording and releasing my album,’ he tells The Sun.

‘Every artist knows these things can go either way.

'I’m really looking forward to my tour and doing more writing.’

Alexandra Burke was crowned champion of the ITV show in December.

Leon was never given a chance. His album showed just what a wonderful voice this young guy has, but the single was the weakest song on the album, he had no opportunity to develope his performing skills before the single came out and performing for the first time in a year on the show. I hope Leon gets signed by another label, and keeps working. JLS were my favourites last year and they did much better by not winning.

Leon is great, his album is absolutely amazing. It is unfair that this has happened. Maybe if they did more to promote his album this would never have happened. Give him another chance!
