Jonathan Ross apologises for Andrew Sachs prank on comeback show

But he can't resist making fun of the scandal

Tom Cruise and Stephen Fry were guests on Friday Night With Jonathan Ross

Jonathan Ross said sorry for making offensive calls to veteran actor Andrew Sachs when he returned to his TV chat show yesterday.

The presenter was suspended from the BBC for three months after his voicemails for the Fawlty Towers star were aired on Russell Brand’s Radio 2 show in October.

‘I am going to take this opportunity to apologise for what I said on the radio,’ said Jonathan.

‘Being on the BBC and being allowed this level of freedom to communicate openly with people, it’s a great privilege and it’s something I’ve always enjoyed and I value enormously.

‘In future I do intend to be more aware of the responsibility that comes with such a gift.

'But, as the kids say, it was my bad. So I do apologise for any hurt of distress caused.’

But Jonathan, 48, couldn't resist making the odd joke.

He opened the show by saying: 'Now, where were we?'

Friday Night With Jonathan Ross airs tonight at 10.35pm.
