Billie Piper: Doctor Who shouldn't be a woman

Actress defends decision to keep male in role

Billie Piper thinks Doctor Who should be played by a man.

The actress, 26, who was Rose Tyler in the show, is thrilled Matt Smith is the new Time Lord.

'I don't think the Doctor should be a woman,' says Billie.

'Forgive me, I know it's not a feminist thing to say, but it's like saying, "Let's make James Bond a woman". It's a man's role.

'Matt's a lovely guy and he's a stirring actor. He has the right energy and that is what the Doctor's role is really about, essentially.'

Matt
replaces David Tennant as The Doctor.
