All three couples qualify from semi-final and phone votes roll over to next week
Sunday, 14 December 2008
In the Strictly Come Dancing semi-final last night, the last minute surprise was that nobody was eliminated.
Lisa Snowdon & Brendon Cole, Rachel Stevens & Vincent Simone plus Tom Chambers & Camilla Dallerup will all dance in the final next week.
The decision was made because radio show presenter Lisa and singer Rachel tied with 75 points each from the judges. Lisa's Argentine Tango was incredibly sexy and Rachel's American Smooth was a delight.
This meant that Holby City star Tom would definitely have been in the dance-off - whatever way viewers voted.
The BBC decided that it was better to finish the show early and carry the votes over to next week.
The dancing couples were all clearly delighted to be told nobody was leaving and celebrated together on the dance floor.
Alesha Dixon & Matthew Cutler beat EastEnders star Matt Di Angelo & Flavia Cacace in the 2007 final.
It was the first time that Strictly's final had only two pairs of contestants. Model Kelly Brook was a strong contender to take the 3rd place but pulled out of the show after her father died.
This year it was political journalist John Sergeant who quit. Though his 'flat-footed' dancing was savaged by the judges, he was a huge hit with the public.
'The trouble is that there is now a real danger that I might win the competition,' John explained before waltzing off.

once again strictly got it wrong. giving the two girls equal points meant that anyone voting for tom tonight would be a waste of a vote. surely the judges knew this. maybe they thought that the audience would not realise this and once again they get their own way. i think that at this stage, the semi finals, the viewing public should vote only. the judges have had their say throughout the series. if the voting system is not sorted out, i will not be watching next year.
Quite agree....fairest way....and also i think having 3 in a final has always made the best programme anyway.
It is quite obvious to me that Len favours Lisa Snowdon. To give her a 10 for the A Tango before he had seen Vincent and Rachels - which was quite likely to be better (and was)- said it all. Craig is the only judge who leaves himself some leeway in the judging and doesn't hand out 10s willy- nilly. I think being on the US version has gone to Len's head; he needs to calm down a bit!
What a rubbish decision by the BBC. The bottom placed couple would have had to dance off anyway. They can only poll a maximum 4 points so in any event the best they could hope if there was a 1-2-3 judges result would be a 3 way tie - 1 in 6 chance of that happening! The judges do a fine job....this may be an entertainment show but its bottom line is a dance competition - the public seem to forget that.
