Political reporter feels the joke has gone too far
Wednesday, 19 November 2008
John Sergeant has announced he's leaving BBC One show Strictly Come Dancing on Saturday.
The political journalist has been a hit with the public but the judges have been critical.
'I am sorry to say I have decided to leave Strictly Come Dancing,’ he says in a statement.
'It was always my intention to have fun on the show and I was hoping to stay in as long as possible.
'The trouble is that there is now a real danger that I might win the competition.
'Even for me that would be a joke too far.'
John and partner Kristina Rihanoff continually got the lowest score from the judges, but were saved by the public vote.
BBC One controller Jay Hunt said: 'We are very sad to see him go.'
