The X Factor contestant’s charity single has broken records to become the quickest selling song of the year.
The track – a cover of Mariah Carey’s hit Hero – also became the fasted-selling charity single of the last decade when it reached the top spot yesterday.
The remaining finalists gathered round the radio at their shared house last night to hear that the song announced as No1 after it beat the combined sales of the rest of the top 10.
‘They all burst into applause – it’s an incredible achievement,’ a source tells The Sun. ‘We sorted out champagne for those old enough to drink.’
The track, which sold 313,244 copies, raises money for injured soldiers through the Help For Heroes charity.
