The X Factor says goodbye to Scott Bruton

In Week 3 of the live shows, ex-Pontin's Bluecoat Scott goes home

Scott Bruton's dreams of winning The X Factor were dashed last night when he left the competition in the big band-themed show.

Before the evening's results were announced, the 10 remaining finalists were joined by Bad Lashes and Girlband to sing a new version of Mariah Carey's 1993 hit Hero.

The song has been recorded by the contestants as a charity single to raise money for Help For Heroes and the Royal British Legion poppy appeal.

Simon Cowell believes the record will go to No 1 and says: 'It is a great way to pay something back to the men and women who give so much for this country. And it shows what music can do — it shows it can be a force for good.'

The single is available to download immediately and in the shops on Monday.

Scott, 19 - who was praised for his interpretation of Mack The Knife - and Daniel Evans, who was criticised for 'a Blackpool pier cabaret' version of The Lady Is A Tramp, got the least number of viewers' votes.

In the sing-off, the former Pontin's Bluecoat selected I Can't Make You Love Me by George Michael but it was Daniel's heartfelt performance of Josh Groban's To Where You Are, dedicated to his late wife, that won the judges' hearts.

Mentor Simon voted for Scott but Cheryl Cole, Dannii Minogue and a choked Louis Walsh, who wept onscreen, voted for Daniel.
