PR guru says he would have cancelled TV chat
Thursday, 23 October 2008
Kerry Katona’s PR Max Clifford has defended Fern Britton and Phillip Schofield following the reality TV star's shambolic interview yesterday.
She slurred her words and acted erratically as she was interviewed by Phil, 46, and Fern, 51, on This Morning to promote her new MTV show.
Kerry, 28, who blamed prescription drugs for her behaviour, later claimed she was stitched up by the show's producers.
Husband Mark Croft, 38, even released a statement today via MTV insisting his wife was not drunk.
‘For the record, Kerry had not been drinking anything other than tea before the show. Kerry has always been honest about her bipolar depression, for which she receives ongoing medical attention and takes prescription drugs daily.
‘Kerry did attempt to explain this to Fern and Phil and is extremely offended that they continued to question her further, despite seeing her obvious distress at their ongoing line of questioning. We feel that forcing Kerry to explain her drinking on a recent holiday was totally unreasonable.’
But Max says former cabbie Mark shouldn’t have let her appear in the first place.
‘I totally disagree [with the statement],’ he tells the Daily Mirror. ‘They were late going for the interview. Had they got there earlier they would have had the chance to speak to people so the interview wouldn't have happened.
‘It's not Fern and Phil's fault at all. Any journalist in that situation would have asked: “Why are you slurring?” I don't think it's fair to blame Fern and Phil at all. They have always been very, very kind to Kerry.
‘All I can say, if I had been there, she wouldn't have done the interview. I've been looking after Kerry for the past 5 years and she needs more protection. I knew nothing about this as it was arranged via MTV and Mark took her there. She shouldn't have done it.’
Kerry Katona: Whole Again airs on MTV One on Sunday 26 October at 9pm.

who care what Max Clifford has to say about anyone or anything. I can't wait for for day when he gets caught in a less than promising position. But will the media knock him, no of course not. So Kerry has a beer or 2, so what. This is not news.
