ITV to follow EastEnders airing sensitive subject matter
Monday, 22 September 2008
Coronation Street has revealed it will centre an abuse storyline around barmaid Becky Grainger.
The ITV soap will follow in the footsteps of EastEnders, which recently received complaints about its portrayal of convict Tony King's abuse of his 15-year-old stepdaughter Whitney.
‘We never intentionally copy EastEnders and our plot will be portrayed significantly different,’ an insider tells The Sun.
‘However, we are aware that this is a sensitive issue and we have ensured that all aspects have been thoroughly researched.’
The storyline will see barmaid Becky (played by Katherine Kelly, 29) being stalked by a policeman who molested her as a teenager.
The scenes will air in November.
