UK and US David Brents fight over comedy award

Steve Carell stars in the US version of The Office playing DAvid Brent, the role made famous by Ricky Gervais

Ricky Gervais had a joke confrontation with Steve Carell at last night’s 60th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards.

The British comedian was presenting a gong at the LA ceremony when he noticed the US actor in the crowd.

Ricky bantered with Steve, saying he'd accepted a Best Comedy Actor gong on his behalf last year but never actually gave him the award.

‘Look at his stupid face,’ he told the audience. ‘He couldn’t actually win one of his own, so he stole someone else’s.’

Ricky, 47, then leapt off stage to tackle the actor, who plays David Brent in the American version of The Office.

‘Have you got it on you?’ he asked. ‘I’ve heard you carry it around with you to get into restaurants and stuff. I made you what you are and I get nothing back. Give me my Emmy!’

Steve, 46, finally produced the Emmy from under his seat.
