David Duchovny says he has no desire to take over the role of Doctor Who if David Tennant quits.

But the star, who plays Fox Mulder in The X-Files, admits he is a fan of the BBC sci-fi series.

‘I love Doctor Who and I remember the first one, which was wonderful in its low-tech quality,’ he tells the Daily Star.

‘I also loved the theme song, which sounded like The Cure to me.’

David, 47, says he'd rather play the Time Lord’s nemesis.

‘Who’s the bad guy? The Dalek? OK, I’ll play him,’ he says.

X Files: I Want To Believe is released in the UK on 1 August.
