Viewers couldn't get through to the Time Lord's mobile
Monday, 7 July 2008
Over 2,500 Doctor Who fans were left disappointed when they tried ringing a mobile number featured in penultimate episode of the series – only to hear a dead dial tone.
The phone number for the Time Lord – played by David Tennant, 37 – flashed on screen several times during the show, leading viewers to believe that calling 07700 900461 would give them an extra insight into the storyline.
But as it was fake it didn't connect.
A BBC spokesman plays down the controversy. 'It wouldn't have cost anything to call these numbers because they are not real,’ he tells the Daily Mail.
'If someone did call it they would hear either a dead dial tone or number unavailable. There are a series of phone numbers we assign to producers for TV series.'
David returns to our screens as the Doctor at Christmas.
