Contest winner admits he's smitten with singer he asked out on live TV

David Cook is loved up with Kimberly Caldwell

American Idol winner David Cook has revealed he's in a relationship with 2nd season contestant Kimberly Caldwell.

'She's great,' he says. 'So far I've had a really good time with her.'

David, 25, asked her out on live TV during the finale of the hit US show.

'I'm just excited because I finally get to talk to you,' he told her at the time.

'I've been hearing you say all these nice things about me all season, so I'm actually going to ask you to dinner right now.'

But David admits he didn't know much about Kimberly, 26, before they got together.

'I knew who she was, but I can't remember a single song that she sang,' he tells US show Extra.

'I'm probably in the dog house now.'
