SEE VIDEO Paula Abdul makes American Idol blunder

Confused star makes judging gaffe

Paula Abdul

American Idol judge Paula Abdul made an embarrassing gaffe when she gave contestant Jason Castro feedback on two songs after he'd only performed once.

'The two songs made me feel like you're not fighting hard enough to get into the top four,' 45-year-old Paula rambled, before being told by fellow judge Randy Jackson that only one song had been performed.

After realising her blunder, Paula said: 'Oh my God, I thought you sang twice!'

The star - who last year swayed, bobbed and winked during a bizarre appearance on a local Seattle TV station - said she was confused by her notes as changes were made to the usual format.

Host Ryan Seacrest tried to laugh it off, saying: 'You're seeing the future, baby!'

'This was officially the strangest show we've ever done,' Simon Cowell said at the end of the show.

The incident has prompted fans to speculate on the programme's messageboards as to whether the show is scripted or fixed.

Programme makers Fox are yet to commented on the blunder.
