Coronation Street Antony Cotton was attacked by a drunken racegoer as he left Aintree on Friday.
The actor – who plays gay Sean Tully in the ITV soap – was leaving the racecourse when the man began abusing him and tried to swing a punch.
‘Antony was being called names but was determined to enjoy the day,’ a source tells the Sunday Mirror.
‘After he left his private box a drunk made a lunge at him.’
A policeman escorted Antony and co-stars Charlie Condou, who plays on-screen lover Marcus Dent, and Jenny McAlpine, who plays Fiz, to their car.
A Corrie spokesman says: ‘There was no homophobic element to the name-calling.’
Antony, 32, chose not to make a formal complaint to police.
