Ricky Gervais: David and Victoria Beckham won’t star in Extras

Comedian says Sacha Baron Cohen beat him to it

Comedian Ricky Gervais made Extras with US broadcaster HBO and the BBC

Ricky Gervais has ruled out casting David Beckham and wife Victoria in his hit show Extras.

The comedian is in talks to make a one-off special of the BBC programme.

But he reckons an episode featuring Posh, 34, and Becks, 33, wouldn’t be as funny as when they were interviewed by Sacha Baron Cohen, 37, as alter-ego Ali G for Comic Relief in 2001.

‘The Beckhams would be huge and we could do loads with them but I think Ali G got in first,’ he tells The Sun.

‘At risk of sounding like an ego-maniac, working with the Beckhams would only interest me if it was my idea.

'It wouldn't feel particularly exclusive. They are great but there is not a magazine that you open up and they've not been in.’
