Madonna and Janet Jackson led tributes to Michael Jackson at last night’s MTV Video Music Awards.
The Material Girl opened the show at New York’s Radio City Music Hall with a touching speech.
Michael’s sister Janet, 42, later took to the stage with a group of dancers to recreate the routine to their 1995 duet Scream.
Madonna, 51, admitted it was an honour to have opened the show.
‘[It was] extremely important because I didn't really have my chance to pay my last respects to him or speak of him in the way that I wanted to,’ she told MTV.
‘[It] took me all week to write [the speech], and I just wrote it from my heart.’
The MTV Video Music Awards air on MTV1 tonight at 9pm.
