Patrick Swayze hospitalised with pneumonia

Actor checks himself in for observation

Patrick Swayze's immune system's been weakened by chemotherapy

Patrick Swayze is being treated for pneumonia.

The Dirty Dancing star, 56, who has pancreatic cancer, checked himself into an LA hospital on Friday.

He was forced to cancel plans to appear at the Television Critics Association to discuss his US series The Beast.

Robert DeBitetto, an executive of cable channel A&E, broke the news at the meeting.

‘Chemotherapy can take its toll,’ he said.

‘Patrick wishes me to tell you he's very sorry he cannot attend but plans to get back to promoting The Beast soon. We hope to see him back on his feet soon.’

The star's spokeswoman confirmed he was in hospital but wouldn't provide further details.

Patrick and his wife Lisa Niemi, 52, recently renewed their wedding vows.
