Jason Donovan: I hated my Zac Efron period

I'm A Celebrity… star wasn't comfortable being a heartthrob

Jason Donovan has admitted he's glad his days as a pin-up are behind him.

The 40-year-old singer and actor rose to fame in Australian soap Neighbours in the 1980s, but he says he was never comfortable being at the centre of hoards of screaming fans.

'Ah, my Zac Efron period!' he tells Now. 'I set out to be an actor and was lucky enough to land myself in a very successful TV show. But I was never comfortable being a heartthrob.

'Looks come and go. But my life’s been blessed, I’ve lived the dream. I’m still living it.'

This was confirmed when finished in third place on I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! 2 years ago. He has since had a 'spiritual blessing' with girlfriend Angela Malloch, 36, with whom he has 2 children – Jemma, 8, and Zach, 7.

And now he has a new album out, Let It Be Me.
