Kanye West: Hi Mom, Obama won

Stars rejoice at Barack Obama's victory

Thursday, 6 November 2008

Kanye West is so delighted about Barack Obama being elected President of the United States, he just wishes his late mum was still alive to share his happiness.

Donda West died last November and he misses her terribly.

The musician, 31, in Liverpool for tonight's MTV European Music Awards, is just one of many celebrities who are celebrating the Democrat's victory.

Kanye uploaded a portrait of 'Barry' on his blog with the message: 'Hi Mom, Obama won!'

P Diddy, 39, is also delighted that the man he voted for will now take over the White House.

'I felt like my vote was the vote that put him into office,' he says, reports AP. 'It was down to one vote, and that was going to be my vote. And that may not be true, but that's how much power it felt like I had.

'I'm not trying to be dramatic, but I just felt like, Martin Luther King, and I felt the whole civil rights movement, I felt all that energy, and I felt my kids.

'It was all there at one time. It was a joyous moment.'

Oprah Winfrey, 54, told Us magazine: 'I'm vibrating' and Madonna, 50, announced at a San Diego gig: 'This is a historical evening. We are lucky to be sharing it with each other'.

Director Michael Moore, 54, writes on his website: 'Who among us is not at a loss for words? Tears pour out. Tears of joy. Tears of relief. A stunning, whopping landslide of hope in a time of deep despair.'

Amy Winehouse's husband Blake Fielder-Civil, 26, released from jail yesterday into rehab, also identified with the new American leader, 47 - who admits he experimented with drugs as a young man.

‘It’s welcome to the free world for me and Barack Obama,’ Blake, 26, quipped.
