Sir Elton John: I wasn't angry with Lily Allen at GQ Awards

Musician says he loves the Smile singer's sense of humour

Elton John and Lily Allen are still good pals

Sir Elton John has laughed off reports that he fell out with Lily Allen when they appeared on stage together at a showbiz bash.

The music legend, 61, was said to be furious with Lily for telling him to ‘f**k off’ at the GQ Men Of The Year Awards last month.

But Elton insists their banter was all in jest.

‘That was just such nonsense. We had such a great time,’ he tells GQ. ‘She told me to f**k off because I'm 40 years older than she is.

'I love her. She was feeling no pain, I was feeling no pain. I was sober, she wasn't, but it doesn't matter.

‘I think [the press was] very unfair to her. We certainly didn't have a fallout on stage.’

At the time Lily also played down the incident.

‘I'm 23, it was an awards ceremony, I drank the free champagne. How awful of me,’ she wrote on her MySpace blog.

‘Elton and I exchanged jokes and there were no hard feelings at all. In fact, neither of us gave it a second thought.

‘It's sad that an evening enjoyed by all had to ruined by some bitter journos again.’
