Scary Spice insists husband kept her safe

Mel B wed Stephen Belafonte in secret in Las Vegas last year

Mel B has praised husband Stephen Belafonte for defending her when a 'crazed' man confronted her at Heathrow Airport.

Scary Spice had just jetted in from New York on Sunday with her daughter Angel Iris, 18 months, when the stranger approached.

The man is reported to have hurled abuse at her and allegedly yelled, 'I'll get a knife and stab you', before Stephen, 33, stepped in.

‘I’m lucky my husband is so protective,’  says Mel. ‘The family always travels together, which makes me feel safe. I still don’t know what was going through that man’s head at the airport. I was half asleep and I looked up and it was all going on. But my husband’s quick reaction made sure we were safe.’

Despite the shock, Scary, 33, has vowed not to step up security.

‘It wouldn’t make me feel safer,’ she tells the Daily Star. ‘I think it draws more attention to yourself.'

Police arrested a 22-year-old man on suspicion of threatening behaviour. He has been released on bail until December.
