As Natalie Cassidy has piled on weight – going up four dress sizes - work has dried up.
The former EastEnders actress is back to a size 16 and has been bingeing on biscuits, cakes and stodgy foods.
‘It’s so sad – Natalie’s at her lowest ebb,’ our source reveals. ‘Her phone’s no longer ringing off the hook with job offers and she just can’t shift the distress and embarrassment of putting the weight back on or having let down the people who bought her fitness DVD. The more down she gets, the more she eats – it’s a vicious cycle.’
Natalie, 25, is so disillusioned, even the prospect of reprising her role in EastEnders is too daunting.
‘Natalie would normally be keen to go back as Sonia as she’s still close to a lot of the cast and feels at home on set, but the idea of going back to being that frumpy character distresses her,’ says our source.
Although her spokesman says there are projects in the pipeline and she’s ‘happier than ever’, our source says she’s feeling the pinch of not being busy.
‘She spends her days walking aimlessly around north London, then heads home to eat fattening foods in front of the telly. She’s pretty much given up.’
Natalie’s sombre moods haven’t been helped by her insistence on keeping most of the clothes she bought when she dropped down to a super-trim size 8.
‘She refuses to get rid of those clothes,’ our source tells us. ‘But it’s a painful reminder of her failure to stay slim.’
The 5ft 4in actress, whose workout DVD Then And Now became a bestseller and is said to have made £300,000, shrank from a size 16 to a size 8 with a gruelling regime during a six-month stretch. But just months after showing her slender figure on the beach, Natalie’s natural curves began to return.
