Katie Holmes’ first night on Broadway was almost upstaged by anti-Scientology protesters wearing black masks.
Twenty picketers gathered outside Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre in New York, where the actress is starring in Arthur Miller’s war drama All My Sons.
‘We are not boycotting Katie, we are not boycotting the play, we are protesting Scientology,’ they shouted.
‘It is evil. Scientology kills people. It follows you home at night. It is perverted.’
Katie, 29, is married to Tom Cruise, 46, who is an avid follower of the religion.
‘We are going to be there not only in protest of The Church Of Scientology,’ a member of protest group Anonymous tells Us Weekly.
‘We would love to see Katie Holmes get away from this evil cult before it's too late.’
All My Sons will run until 11 January 2009.
