Ashlee shows off baby curves at Pete's bar opening

The newlyweds also celebrate Pete's 29th birthday

Ashlee Simpson surprised husband Pete Wentz at his 29th birthday bash

Ashley Simpson-Wentz displayed her new mommy-to-be figure in a fitted black dress at the opening of husband Pete Wentz's bar Angels & Kings in Chicago.

The party in Wentz's hometown on Tuesday night doubled as another 29th birthday bash for the Fall Out Boy bassist, who also celebrated with a party at Foxtail in L.A. on his actual birthday, June 5.

Wentz and Wentz-Simpson, 23, arrived in an SUV around 7:30 p.m. and were greeted by his parents. Simpson-Wentz, in black high heels, posed for a few pictures with her husband before heading inside with her in-laws.

Wentz, meanwhile, remained outside and fielded questions about how he's preparing for fatherhood ("I've been reading books and watching my dad") and if they would raise their family in Chicago ("I think I would rather raise a family here than L.A.; you go to your own coffee shop, you go to the dog park, its smaller and I appreciate it").

As for how his wife is handling her pregnancy, he admitted he doesn't know if she has any cravings, but said he is working hard on catering to her needs: "Oh yeah, I do the whole nine [yards], anything to keep her comfortable – massages, the works."

Once inside, Wentz-Simpson told party-goers that she had put together a slideshow in honor of her husband's birthday. "I thought you said you wouldn't do anything embarrassing!" he said to her.

She responded sweetly, "I know, I'm sorry Peter." The montage featured images of Wentz growing up, and ended with a video of the singer saying, "I love you, Peter" and blowing a kiss. Afterward, he was presented with a giant cake in the shape of a bulldog – the same breed as their beloved Hemingway, the ring bearer at their wedding.
