Stuntman breaks Guinness World Record

David Blaine

David Blaine has set a new Guinness World Record by holding his breath for a staggering 17 minutes and 4 seconds.

The stuntman, 35, was suspended in a water-filled sphere on the Oprah Winfrey Show on Wednesday in a bid to beat the previous record of 16 minutes and 32 seconds.

After an agonising wait – in which David’s heart beat slowed dramatically – he exceeded his goal and was pulled from the tank.

‘There’s no enhancement, no cheating,’ he said afterwards. ‘I actually started to doubt I was going to make it because I’d never done it with such a high heart rate.’

David’s previous stunts include spending 44 days in a glass box over the Thames in London.
