After a three-year break from music, Sophie Ellis-Bextor reveals that becoming a mum has renewed her determination to succeed.
‘Having a baby made me more ambitious than ever,’ she admits. ‘After my son was born, people suggested I wouldn’t be interested in this life as a performer any more, but far from losing my drive, it has heightened it.’
Sophie, 28, who gave birth to son Sonny three years ago, admits that motherhood and pop stardom isn't an easy mix.
‘The guilt is massive,’ she tells The Sunday Mirror Magazine. ‘That’s one of the emotions of being a mother I didn’t count on.
'But if I’m going to be taken away from my family, I want it to be worthwhile. I’m not willing to just amble along.'
To remind herself of her nearest and dearest when she's away from them, Sophie has a tattoo on her arm with the word ‘family’ draped around a love heart.
How very rock 'n' roll.
Sophie’s new album Trip The Light Fantastic is out on 21 May.
