David Duchovny has confirmed The X Files will return to the big screen.

The 46-year-old actor, who played Agent Mulder on the cult TV show for nine years, revealed he and co-star Gillian Anderson are ready to reprise their roles for a second film.

'We'll do another movie or two – we'll continue to do movies if the next one does well,' he told a movie website.

'There is a board, as we say, a story. The story will revolve around Gillian's character, Dana Scully, and my character, Fox Mulder.'

The first film, also called The X Files, was released in 1998 and a sequel has always been promised.
