Russell Brand apologises for calling Weston-super-Mare a junky town on Twitter
Russell Brand has apologised to Weston-super-Mare locals after labelling the seaside resort a 'junky town'.
Promoting an upcoming gig in the area in August, the comedian Tweeted: 'Let me take you to JUNKY TOWN.
'Gig in Weston SM next Tuesday - COME!!'
Weston's mayor has expressed his disappointment over the remarks.
'It's annoying he has chosen to say this about the town when he clearly hasn't been here for a while,' says David Hitchens.
'There are a lot of people working hard for the benefit of Weston.'
Russell said sorry to his audience of 600 during the gig at the town's Playhouse Theatre.
'I don't mean to be rude, I think treatment centres are a good thing,' he told them.
'I've just come from a treatment centre.'
