Kate Middleton must be sad - Queen's oldest corgi Monty dies following star turn in Olympics Opening Ceremony
Monty the corgi delighted almost 30 million viewers with his appearance in the James Bond comedy sketch which began the Olympics Opening Ceremony.
But today Buckingham Palace has confirmed the death of the 13-year-old dog, who was previously owned by the Queen Mother.
Monty then ran down the stairs, performed a series of tummy rolls and watched a helicopter take off for Stratford carrying Bond and a stunt double dressed in the same clothes as Wills' gran.
Monty was named after Monty Roberts, an American horse-trainer who advises the Queen on her horses and corgis.
He has reportedly offered her a new corgi puppy to carry on a tradition that began when the future King George VI bought his first corgi called Dookie in 1933.
