Olympics diver Tom Daley's fans prove 'crazier' than One Direction's - police called to book signing
Police were called to a book signing for Olympic diver Tom Daley on Thursday after too many hysterical female fans showed up.
The masses of screaming girls desperate to see Tom caused cops to intervene at the event held at the Bluewater shopping centre in Kent.
Many had camped out since 1am to see their man and get a copy of his book My Story, but by 9.30am staff at Waterstones had to stop any more Dalyettes from coming in due to overcrowding - and hysteria.
‘The crowds were quite excitable,' says a police spokeswoman.
‘There were a number who didn't have tickets. A few people were asked to leave by officers.'
A member of staff at the bookstore even compared the frenzy to a 1D personal appearance, saying, ‘This is even more crazy than signings we've done with One Direction.'
Tom, 18, seems to be on a roll after winning a bronze medal at the London 2012 Olympic Games and getting straight As in his A-Levels this week.
And next on his list could be an appearance on hit TV show Celebrity Juice.
After a Twitter follower asked when he'd be going on the show, Tom replied, ‘Whenever they invite me!! Ha'
