David Beckham has not been selected for Team GB

Even though David Beckham was a key figure in winning London's Olympic bid, he's been left out of the country's 18-man football team by manager Stuart Pearce.

The squad can have 3 players over the age of 23 - but Becks wasn't chosen as one of the trio.

'Naturally I am very disappointed,' says David, 37, 'but there will be no bigger supporter of the team than me.

'And like everyone, I will be hoping they can win the gold.'

David, who lost out to Manchester City's Micah Richards, 24, Manchester United's Ryan Giggs, 38, and Liverpool's Craig Bellamy, 32, is staying upbeat about the snub.

'Everyone knows how much playing for my country has always meant to me, so I would have been honoured to have been part of this unique Team GB squad,' he says.

'As a Londoner, I was really proud to have played a small part in bringing the Olympics to my home town and I can't wait for the Games to begin and to enjoy every moment along with the rest of Great Britain.'

Becks' fans have been supporting the former England captain on Twitter and pal James Corden has spoken out about the controversial decision.

'To
ask him to give everything to winning the Olympics for London then not
picking him to take part is so disrespectful,' the actor declares.
