Peter Andre's show My Life is currently showing on ITV2

For weeks, Peter Andre's tried to remain upbeat.

Even while his close friend Bee Gee Robin Gibb was desperately battling for his life and Pete's own beloved brother Andrew Andre began aggressive chemotherapy, the star did his best to stay positive.

Last week, however, the cruel reality of Andrew's cancer ordeal provided Peter, 39, with a shocking blow that he's struggling to get over.

While he was on holiday in Cyprus with his children - Junior, 7 tomorrow, and Princess, 4 - Peter received the news he's been dreading: that Andrew's stage four cancer of the kidney and liver has spread to other parts of his body.

The diagnosis was devastating for the entire Andre family, who'd been banking on new trial drugs curing Andrew, 55.

Heartbreakingly, until just days earlier, the signs had been promising.

A source close to Peter tells me: 'There was evidence that the trial drugs were reducing some of the cancer cells by up to 70 per cent in parts of Andrew's kidney and liver.

'Peter thought it could be a breakthrough and the whole family had hope.'
