Matt Cardle's debut album reached No 2 in the UK charts

Matt Cardle has confirmed that he's no longer signed to Columbia Records.

The 29-year-old won The X Factor in 2010, but hasn't had the chart success he'd hoped for.

'I have parted ways with columbia records, we were heading in different directions, big news coming soon.... So excited! : ) love you all xx,' Tweets Matt.

Matt, who was mentored by Dannii Minogue, 40, on the talent show, was jointly signed to 52-year-old Simon Cowell's label Syco and Columbia following his win.

He joins a long list of male X Factor flops, including Leon Jackson, 23, and Steve Brookstein, 43, who now plays in pubs.

Matt recently admitted he was keen to distance himself from the programme.

'I'm desperate to shake of the X Factor tag now...It's all about shaking the X when it comes to the music I'm about to release,' said Matt.

'But
I can't knock the show for what it's done for me.

'I've got my break
from it and I've got my foot in the door by doing it. Now it's time to
move on and just be me.'

The news comes on the day it's confirmed that One Direction - who came 3rd in the 2010 series - have gone double platinum in America.
