Kate Middleton's husband Prince William is away in the Falklands

Kate Middleton was in for a treat on her trip to London's 'luxury hamper' store Fortnum & Mason yesterday.

The Duchess of Cambridge, 30, who was accompanying the Queen and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, sampled a crystallised rose petal, which staff at the shop said would be even nicer dropped in a glass of champagne.

'Oh yes, I will definitely try that. Gosh, it is very sweet,' Kate said.

Kate - who wore an above-the-knee blue Missoni coat with grey heels and a St David's Day daffodil brooch for the event - was also given dog biscuits for her and Prince William's black cocker spaniel Lupo.

Along with the Queen, 85, and Camilla, 64, the Duchess unveiled a plaque in the store, which marks Piccadilly's regeneration.
