Harry Styles wishes people had accepted the age gap between him and Caroline Flack

Harry Styles dated Caroline Flack for 3 months

One Direction star Harry Styles has blamed other people for the break down of his relationship with Caroline Flack.

The 18-year-old singer says the outrage about the couple's 14-year age gap led them to decide that splitting up was the easiest option.

'Other people didn't want it to work, in the end we decided to give up on it,' Harry tells a source.

'We will remain friends.'

Harry and Xtra Factor presenter Caroline, 32, dated for 3 months before ending their romance last month.

Harry has since visited the US with his One Direction band mates while Caroline was spotted locking lips with rocker Sam McCarthy outside the Crown And Goose pub in Camden - although it seems they're just mates.

'[Harry and Caroline's] really was a serious relationship,' the source tells The People, 'but in the end it wasn't worth the hassle.'
