Comedian Russell Brand speaks out for first time since he announced he's divorcing Katy Perry

Russell Brand has insisted that he's doing OK, despite his recent break-up with wife Katy Perry.

Asked about his mental state at a recent press conference, the comedian launched into a bizarre rant.

'I'm quite well thank you. Holding up quite well,' Russell, 36, said while promoting his new TV show, Strangely Uplifting.

'Are you asking because of recent events? You are making the mistake of seeing time as linear.

'The brilliant American author Kurt Vonnegut, he'll tell you that if you imagine reality as experienced simultaneously, events become redundant.'

Russell chatted away with his confusing talk of 'a post-structuralist, postmodern vortex' and acknowledging one's 'divine and beautiful light'.

Despite his bravado on the surface, former drug addict Russell has been taking cautionary steps to avoid temptation following his announcement that he's divorcing Katy, 27.

'He attended a couple of counselling sessions last week to help him deal with the stress,' an insider tells us.

'He knows he's pretty vulnerable at the moment, so he's taking extra measures to prevent a relapse.'
