Russell Brand: It's hard not to crave days when I had 4 or 5 women after a gig - but it ended in chaos

Russell talks about his wild past and finding peace through meditation

Russell Brand used to be a real lady killer

When Russell Brand filed for divorce from Katy Perry, all he said was: 'Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I'll always adore her and I know we'll remain friends.'

There's been no explanation for the split but now on his Rusty Rockets Twitter account, Russell, 36, has directed his followers to a WTF With Marc Maron podcast of an interview he gave on 13 December.

Russell is happy to open up about his inner life and desire for stability and happiness.

'It's my 9th sober birthday today,' Russell tells Marc in a conversation about being in insecure overweight kid and beating his addiction to drink and drugs.

He finds it helps to meditate every day.

'If I leave food alone, I start to think food is the answer. If I leave sex alone I think sex is the answer. Or love is the answer,' he explains.

'But through meditation, I feel enlightment and nirvana is already present. You can tune in.'

The former hedonist also recalls years ago in his Big Brother days: 'There was a floodgate, a deluge of women - a hurricane of decadence. 

'I'd do a gig and 4 or 5 women would come back. There were times when it wasn't all desperate and ugly. There were times when I was this representation of pure libertarianism and sexuality.

'Hey, let's do this... It was so brilliant

'It's so hard not to cherish those night and crave them. But I know where they ended up.

'Women meeting across me. One would leave, another would come.

'All the time, women in the bed. There'd be crossovers. And they had no problem with each other. And it was blissful.

'I'd created this union but I knew it was over when there were people in half-filled baths weeping...

'The desperate awful situation. We make a mess, the chaos will come.'
