Russell Brand and Katy Perry's marriage is over.

Russell has filed divorce documents in Los Angeles, citing 'irreconcilable differences'.

'Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I'll always adore her and I know we'll remain friends,' says Russell, who allegedly had a furious argument with Katy before Christmas.

Rumours that their relationship had fallen apart first circulated in November but Russell's mum insisted they were 'very happy' and her son denied they'd split.

On 2 December, Russell appeared on Ellen DeGeneres' TV chat show to silence the speculation.

'Me and Katy Perry have split? She should have told me!' he quipped.

'There
are always rumours, aren't there? in the end, you just have to not
engage with internet technology...which is difficult because a lot of
the nude women websites I quite enjoy.

'But they've had to go. I treat the whole internet now as if it's a wicked little liar!

'I'm really happily married. I'm
married to Katy. Perpetually, until death do us part was the pledge. I'm still alive.'

The Brands were expected to reunite for Christmas but spent 7,000 miles apart - Katy, 27, in Hawaii and Russell, 36, in Cornwall.
