Prince William rescued 2 sailors after their cargo vessel was sunk by a huge wave in the Irish Sea yesterday.
One body was recovered but the search continues for the other 5 sailors, who were part of the 8-man Russian crew that fell into trouble off the coast of Wales's Llyn Peninsula.
Wills, 29, and his 3 other crew members took the survivors to hospital in Bangor.
'They definitely saved the lives of 2 men,' says Ray Carson, watch manager at the maritime rescue co-ordination centre in Holyhead.
'The survivors were distressed and concerned about their colleagues. But I think they are OK.
'One had a slight bang to his head and they were suffering from shock. Both will be put in local accommodation.'
William's Sea King helicopter was sent to the stormy scene to battle 50mph gale winds and poor visibility from its base at RAF Valley in Anglesey.
'The Duke of Cambridge was a co-pilot on one of the aircraft involved,' a Ministry of Defence spokesman confirms.
'He is now back at base.'
