George Michael has been hospitalised with pneumonia on the Vienna leg of his European tour Symphonica.
The 48-year-old singer fell ill just two hours before he was due to perform in front of thousands of Austrian fans.
'He started off with a big chest infection and he's been touring as well which has been really gruelling,' a friend tells the Daily Mirror.
'When he landed in Austria, it was below freezing and combined with all the air travel and the energetic shows that he's done, it's made things worse.'
George - who's received rave reviews for his recent concerts - has now been forced to pull out of two shows in Cardiff this weekend because doctors have advised him not fly.
It's not the first time George has been taken ill since setting off on his 4-month tour in August.
Last month, he called off a sold-out gig at London's Royal Albert Hall because of a viral infection.
