Dannii Minogue slides into her London hotel suite overlooking the Thames in a glam slip dress from her fashion label Project D's spring/summer collection.
Apart from desperately missing her baby son Ethan - who's at home in Australia with his dad Kris Smith, 33 - she's absolutely glowing.
Remarkably, Dannii, 40, is celebrating three decades in showbiz - not that you'd know it with her youthful looks and newly cropped hair.
'I only have two minutes to style it each day now so that I can quickly get back to being a mum,' she says.
I've never really believed that life begins at 40 but looking at Dannii, I might just change my mind.
She's more content than I've ever seen her, even though she isn't yet back to full health having been diagnosed with an underactive thyroid in the months after she gave birth to Ethan in July 2010.
It caused clumps of her hair to fall out and her weight to plummet by almost a stone.
But as we start to gossip over a crab salad, it's obvious Dannii doesn't regret her shock decision to quit The X Factor.
Reading your book My Style it's incredible to see your various looks over three decades of your career. I can't believe it's been that long...
Well, yes, I know! Most of the outfits are fashion mistakes.
I wasn't born knowing what suits me.
You go with trends because you think it's ‘in', so time has been a great thing for me to work out what works.
Would you say you're obsessed with clothes?
I'm not good at throwing things out, that's for sure.
I've got half our walk-in wardrobe at home.
That's fair, right?'
You've become a bit of a fashion icon, haven't you?
I never see myself like that.
For me, a style icon is someone who's always got it right.
I don't feel that's me.
But I'm starting to pull it together and feel more confident with it.'
How did you cope with turning 40 last month?
[Cackling] Short skirts! For men it's usually Ferraris.
I always used to be prudish but I thought: ‘No, I'm going to wear some bloody short dresses when I hit 40.'
No midlife crisis yet, then?
That is my midlife crisis - and I'm revelling in it.
