Reese Witherspoon reveals black eye as she recovers after being hit by a car

Reese Witherspoon displayed the nasty injuries she sustained after being hit by a car last week when she attended a friend's birthday party in LA yesterday.

The actress, who was knocked over by an elderly driver while out running in Santa Monica, is still nursing a black eye, bruised cheek and a cut on her forehead after the accident.

Reese, 36, was taken to hospital before spending time 'resting at home', says her rep.

The 84-year-old woman, who was cited for failure to stop for a pedestrian, is apparently 'shaken up' by the incident and will be retaking her driving test.

'The whole incident really frightened Reese,' a close source tells Us Weekly.

'The odd thing is that she has always been very afraid of being hit by a car.

'It's been an ongoing fear of hers. She's always the first person to pull people away from the edge of the curb.'

Reese will not be pressing charges against the driver.
