Ross Kemp's ex-wife Rebekah Brooks arrested on suspicion of corruption

Operation Weeting detectives meet News International former chief executive in London

Rebekah Brooks divorced EastEnders actor Ross Kemp in 2009

Rebekah Brooks has been arrested by appointment by Operation Weeting police at a London police station.

The 43-year-old was arrested at 12pm on suspicion of conspiring to intercept communications and on suspicion of corruption allegations and is currently being questioned.

Fomer chief executive of News International, Rebekah resigned last week following News Of The World's phone hacking scandal, which led to the paper's closing.

She was editor of the newspaper when murdered schoolgirl Milly Dowler's phone was allegedly hacked and sent an internal memo to staff admitting she felt a 'deep sense of responsibility'.

'At News International we pride ourselves on setting the news agenda for the right reasons. Today we are leading the news on the wrong ones,' Rebekah wrote.

'The reputation of the company we love so much, as well as the press freedoms we value so highly, are all at risk.

'As Chief Executive of the company, I feel a deep sense of responsibility for the people we have hurt and I want to reiterate how sorry I am for what we now know to have taken place.'

Rebekah, formerly Rebekah Wade, was married to EastEnders star Ross Kemp, who played Grant Mitchell, for 7 years.

The couple began dating in 1996, married in Las Vegas in 2002, but became 'estranged' in 2006 and were granted a 'quickie' divorce at London's High Court in 2009.

Rebekah got a decree nisi on the grounds of the actor's alleged infidelity.

‘I found certain evidence indicating adultery,' read Rebekah's court papers. ‘The respondent then admitted the adultery.'

The redhead is now married to former racehorse trainer and author Charlie Brooks.
