Hayden and Wladimir are single again

Wladimir Klitschko and Hayden Panettiere have gone their separate ways

Heroes actress Hayden Panettiere and her heavyweight boyfriend Wladimir Klitschko have called time on their relationship.

The pair ended their 18-month romance because US-based Hayden and Russian boxer Wladimir struggled to cope with their long-distance romance.

'While we decided to split, we feel great sympathy and respect for each other and will surely stay close friends,' says 5ft 2in Hayden, 21.

Wladimir, who stands at 6ft 5in tall and is in training for a fight against Brit David Haye, also insists his break-up with the Scream 4 star was civil.

'We have had a great time together. But more and more we realised how difficult it is to maintain a relationship when living on two continents,' Wladimir, 35, says in a statement to German magazine Bunte.

'I cherish Hayden as a person and woman and I'm sure we will stay friends.'
