Morrissey: The Royal Family are 'benefit scroungers'

Singer has no interest in the Royal Wedding

Morrissey won't be one of the billions watching Prince William and Kate Middleton marry

Morrissey won't be watching Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding tomorrow as he thinks the Royal Family is pointless.

'I don't think the so-called Royal Family speak for England now and I don't think England needs them,' Morrissey, 51, told BBC Radio 5Live yesterday.

'I do seriously believe they are benefit scroungers and nothing else.

'I don't believe they serve any purpose whatsoever.'

The ex-Smiths singer may not be interested in the Royal Wedding, but one celebrity who is enthusiastic about the event is David Beckham.

The LA Galaxy footballer and his family are flying in to London today and he and Victoria will be attending the big event at Westminster Abbey. 

'I think a Royal Wedding, it's amazing,' David, 35, says in a video on his Facebook page.

'It really is amazing. Our country needs it. Our country wants it.

'The British public love the Royal Family.'
