The Only Way Is Essex stars paid just above minimum wage
The cast members earn £50 a day for their roles in Series 2 of the popular reality show, just above the National Minimum Wage.
Main character Mark Wright has revealed that it was a struggle, after getting nothing for Series 1, to convince channel bosses to pay them at all!
‘They argued that without the show, we wouldn't be where we are,' says Mark, 24.
‘Our argument was that we helped make the show what it was.'
Given that Sunday's episode gave ITV2 their highest-ever viewing figures of 1.1 million, Mark and the gang might be able to negotiate a bonus.
But he's just happy to be earning a salary at all.
‘Now, we are getting paid, yes,' he tells The Daily Mirror.
‘I'm not expecting to become a millionaire off of my wages but it leads to other things.'
