Christina Aguilera's life has gone downhill since landing a role in Burlesque

Christina Aguilera's movie debut bombed, she gained a stone in weight, filed for divorce from her hubby, forgot the words to the US national anthem and tripped on stage at the Grammys.

All things considered, it's safe to say Christina Aguilera hasn't had a very successful six months.

But sources close to the troubled mum of one, arrested for public intoxication 2 weeks ago, have told Now that landing her role in Burlesque last year was when the trouble began.

'There were high hopes for the film,' says a pal.

'Christina was devastated when it bombed.'

With her marriage to Jordan Bratman over, Christina, 30, hit the party scene hard.

'It began to take its toll,' adds the pal.

'Christina gained weight and was even more exhausted and it culminated in the mini meltdown when she forgot the words to the American national anthem at the Super Bowl.'

Although friends are rallying round the troubled singer, sources say her family's planning to get her into rehab.

'Christina needs help,' says the pal.

'Everyone's hoping she does it off her own bat but if not we'll stage an intervention before it gets worse.'
