Cheryl Cole flies to Santa Monica to lose her Geordie accent for US X Factor
Cheryl Cole has arrived in LA on the same flight as Victoria Beckham - and half an hour after Katie Price.
The Girls Aloud star's new role as a judge on The US X Factor is expected to be confirmed any day, so Cheryl, 27, is meeting an American voice coach.
Her Geordie accent and use of idiomatic expressions is still thought to be of concern to Fox executives.
'If audiences and contestants can't understand her it is actually a regulatory offence,' says a source.
'Cheryl will be told not to use the word "babe" to describe a pretty girl.
'Other key words she's being taught include a "hard I" for words such as vitamin, saying "pants" and not "trousers", "butt" not "bum" and "cookies" not "biscuits".
'They also want to clamp down on her saying "pet" which literally means "animal" in the States.'
Cheryl's also expected to spend quality time with confidant Derek Hough, 25, who recently visited her London. If she can squeeze him in.
'These are very exciting times ahead for Cheryl and her trip to LA this week will start setting a lot of balls in motion,' the source tells the Daily Mirror.
'She has a very busy schedule with lots of meetings planned.
'Clearly, she hopes to see a lot of Derek too but her priority is very much work and he understands that.'
