Sharon Osbourne grovels to Madonna

...but only so Kelly Osbourne can land a job with Lourdes!

We love Sharon Osbourne. Her fabulously mouthy attitude has landed her in hot water on a regular basis with some of the biggest stars in celebland and ‘sorry' isn't usually in her vocabulary. Until now...

Back in 2005, Shazza slammed Madonna, 52, in the press, telling GQ magazine that she ‘would like to punch her'.

She minced no words a month later when she griped about Madge's changing image:

‘One day you're in gun gear, then you're in horsing gear, then you dress like a dyke, then you dress like a hooker, then you're in a flowery dress reading kids' poetry looking like a librarian, then you're back looking like an old hooker again.'

Ooh, saucer of milk, anyone?

So it came as some surprise to us when we heard that feisty Sharon, 58, ate a slice of humble pie to pave the way for daughter Kelly, 26, to land a job as the new face of Madonna and daughter Lourdes's Material Girl clothing line.

‘There was some major politicking involved, which culminated in a grovelling apology from Sharon,' says our insider.

‘Madonna didn't want Kelly because she can't stand Sharon. But Sharon was keen to bury the hatchet so that Kelly could be a serious contender.

'She tried to phone her, but Madge wouldn't take the call, so Sharon wrote a nice letter and sent flowers.'

Looks like it worked: last week Kelly was announced as the new face of Material Girl, taking over from Gossip Girl star Taylor Momsen.

‘There are conditions, of course,' adds our source. ‘Kelly had to promise she would get her mum to shut her mouth about her new boss.'

Shame - we were hoping for a ‘my mum's harder than your mum'-style face-off...
